Preaching God's Word
Preaching God’s Word is a practical course that will help equip you to prepare and deliver sermons that are faithful to Scripture and relevant to your audience. It is designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills that are needed to preach well.
Although this course specifically focuses on preaching, many of the principles in the course can be applied to other situations in which you are communicating a biblical message.
This course does not assume that you have had previous experience with preaching. If you have never preached before, this course will give you the basic skills that are needed to preach God’s Word. And if you have a lot of experience in preaching, this course will enable you to sharpen your skills and to become even more effective at preaching. The goal in either case is to strive for excellence and to become the best communicator that you can be for glory of God.
Some of the topics covered in this course are laying a foundation by understanding what biblical preaching is; teaching you how to study for your sermon by using good Bible study methods; building good mechanics for preparing your sermon including defining the purpose and structuring your sermon, as well as preparing good introductions and closing; and giving you hints for delivering your sermon to your congregation.
Through your study of this course, we pray that you will develop skills to help you:
- Understand and apply the principles of biblical preaching in your ministry.
- Prepare biblical sermons that are faithful to Scripture and relevant to your listeners.
- Deliver biblical sermons using your voice, gestures, and eye contact effectively to reinforce your message.
- Exhibit the fruit of the Spirit more fully in your life so that you are spiritually prepared to preach God’s Word.
By the end of this course, you will have developed a sermon ready to be given to your congregation.
